After-Hours Car Lockout — Randhart

The Situation

A call came in at 9:45 pm on a Sunday. The caller had returned home from visiting family, got out of his Toyota Corolla in his own driveway, and heard the central locking click as the door closed. His keys were on the passenger seat. His phone had been in his pocket — fortunately — so he was able to call immediately. His wife and child were inside the house, but the front door was also locked and his house keys were on the same keyring.

What We Found

The vehicle was a Toyota Corolla, approximately 2017 model, parked in a residential driveway in Randhart. The keys were visible on the passenger seat. All four doors were locked. The vehicle had a standard door lock with no unusual reinforcement.

What We Did

1. We arrived within 22 minutes of the call.
2. We used a long-reach tool kit appropriate for the Corolla door profile, working through the top of the door frame between the seal and the door skin without marking the paint or damaging the seal.
3. We accessed the interior latch and unlocked the vehicle. The keys were retrieved from the passenger seat.
4. Total time on site: 13 minutes.

No damage to the vehicle was caused. The caller confirmed the car was clean and undamaged before we left.

Outcome

The whole situation — call, travel, resolution — was completed in under 35 minutes. The caller noted that he had expected to wait much longer and had almost resigned himself to spending the night at a neighbour’s. Being based in Randhart gave us a significant response time advantage in this case.
