Car Key Replacement in Alberton

Lost or broken car key? We cut and program replacement keys for most makes and models.

Losing a car key is more than an inconvenience — on a modern vehicle, the transponder chip in the key is paired to the immobiliser, meaning a correctly cut blade without programming simply will not start the car. Getting a replacement right requires both accurate key cutting and vehicle-specific programming.

What Car Key Replacement Involves

  1. Blade cutting. We cut the mechanical blade to match your door and ignition lock profile, either from your existing key if it is available, or from the lock profile directly.
  2. Transponder programming. We program the key’s chip to communicate with your vehicle’s ECU and immobiliser. Without this step, the vehicle will not start.
  3. Remote programming (where applicable). If your key includes a remote locking function, we program this at the same time.
  4. Full test. We test the key in the door, the ignition, and the remote function before handing it over.

Can You Replace a Key Without the Original?

Yes, for most vehicles. We can cut a blade from the door or ignition lock profile directly, without needing an existing key to copy. We will need your vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) and proof of ownership. The VIN is found on the dashboard (visible through the windscreen on the driver’s side) or on your registration documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does key replacement take?

For most common vehicle makes, blade cutting and transponder programming can be completed in 30 to 60 minutes on site. Smart keys and proximity keys may take longer due to more complex programming sequences.

  • Will the new key also open the boot and operate the remote?

Yes, if your existing key had remote locking, we program the replacement to match. If you only want a basic key without remote programming to save cost, we can do that too — just ask when you call.

  • What if your equipment cannot program my vehicle?

We tell you upfront on the phone if your specific model is outside our programming range, before we drive out and waste your time. We do not attempt jobs we cannot complete.
